The Battle of Gettysburg was conducted from 1 to 3 July 1863 in Pennsylvania. The battle led to the largest number of casualties in the entire war and was a tuing point in the American Civil War. For three days, the army of General George Mead of the Potomac held back the Confederate army of General Robert Lee, halting the Confederacy's attempts to invade the North.
